Tehran Refinery

The refinery is divided in two sections, south (no 1), and north (no 2). It also has grease and bitumen producing units. The establishment of the south unit was started in 1965 and was run in 1968 .The first capacity of this refinery was 85.000 barrels a day which with some changing in its design in 1976 its capacity was increased to 125.000 barrels a day. Building the north unit was started in late 1971 and it was used in 1974 with the capacity of 100.000 barrels a day. Today these two units are able to refine 225.000 barrels of crude oil. Feed of this refinery are prepared with 24” and 26” pipe line from Maroon and Ahvaz.

Tehran Bitumen Plant
This unit converts the residue of the vacuum distillation unit (vb) to roof and paving bitumen through air injection (oxidation). Asphalt unit is located in southern refinery and includes 3 oxidation units as well as an emulsion bitumen unit.

Unit no. 1:
This unit was designed and executed by Flore Company of the United States in 1967 and commenced its operation 1968. This unit is capable to produce 1310 barrels of grade 60/70 as well as 750 barrels of grade 85/25 bitumen per day.

Unit no. 2:
This unit has been established by Flore Company as well and commenced its operation 1973. This unit is capable to produce 5450 barrels of grade 60/70 bitumen per day.

Unit no. 3:
The third bitumen unit of Tehran oil refinery was established using the technology of unit no. 2. This unit was started in 1987 with nominal capacity of 5450 barrels of paving  grade bitumen per day.

Emulsion bitumen unit
This unit was commissioned in 1984 but has been put in operation only in 1994 and its production was halted thereafter due to technical problems and no market for bitumen emulsion. The overhaul of this unit started in June 2004 and completed in September in the same year. This unit has passed its trial production and is ready to produce based on market needs.
